So, on popular demand, we bring you the inspiring journey of one of our favourite beds- Allan King Sized Bed.
Procuring Best of its Quality Timber
The journey begins with the arrival of outsourced, high quality timber planks at the Manufacturing Plant of Wooden Street at Jodhpur. These fresh timber boards, unaware of the tests and quests that they have to undergo to be the diamond in the rough, are selected based on their type of wood they belong to, like for Allan Bed, the Sheesham planks are chosen.
Designing Process Starts
Potatoes are what life gives you, to be the delicious French Fries that everyone loves they have to endure the peeling and get deep fried. Once the planks are selected the process of cutting them to size, as per the requirement and constraints raised by the design of the Allan Bed is done.
Making of Cut-to-Size Planks
Now these cut planks are glued together to create large sized planks. But the gluing can lead to an uneven surface of these glued together planks. The process of levelling is done to ensure that the planks are even and smooth before they are re-cut to start the primary building process for the final design.
The glued together boards are again cut as per the dimensions of the Allan Bed. At the end of each process, a cycle of sanding and buffing is done to give the silkiest texture to your Allan Bed.
Erecting Basic Structure of Allan
These planks, that have been cut as per the dimensions dictated by Allan Bed, are joined together with dowels. Now we can say that the fries are chopped and ready to fry. What we mean is the basic structure of the frame is erected. This makes the designing process more unidirectional. Whatever that you see on the bed, apart from wood, say, the hinges, the channels, etc., are screwed in and attached at this stage.
Fixing Fixating Lattices
Lattices that the Alan bed possesses are separately made.
Craftsmen Anil Vishwakarma, whose entire family has been dedicated to the profession of carving wonders out of wood, says,
“This is intricate work. Lattices require a lot of command over your instincts and years of practice. Only the best amongst us are allowed to work on these. Technology is a big help, but again, the precision it asks is not everyone’s cup of tea.”
When the lattices are readyn we can say that the cornstarch batter is ready, the chopped potatoes are mixed with this. The perfect lattices are now stapled together with the frame that you see. At this stage, the shadow of the final product starts to get clearer. The design becomes more specific
Polishing and Finishing
Again, fine sanding, the last of all the sanding and buffing cycles, prior to the polishing, is done. We know how much influence the polishing and the finish of the product has on the end-product. A good finish of a great product makes it the king of people’s choice. Keeping this in mind, every product at Wooden Street undergoes three to four fine coats of polishing to make your product look aesthetically enhanced and functionally upgraded. After the craftsmen are through with the finishing process, a protective coat of varnish is done to give the product the gleam that catches your attention and heart.
