In our journey of discovering beautiful houses across India, at beautiful locations, with interiors that inspire the Michelangelo in us, we discovered the paradise that Sunil Shetty, the great Bollywood actor, has carved for himself within the lap of nature in Khandala, Mumbai. The iconic actor, who has entertained the masses with his flair-rich acting and heart-winning dialogues, has won our hearts yet again with his splendid choice in erecting a holiday home far from the bustling commotion of the cityscape.
The house is rich with the essential elements of nature, namely water, air, and greenery. The design of the villa has been kept as open as possible, letting the nature breathe life into the home. Spread over a large area of 6,200 square feet, the home has features that we can’t get over like a built-in lake with small fountain discs and cute gazebos by the side of the lake around the house. Swoon! Mana Shetty, Sunil’s wife and owner of lifestyle store R House, has tried to showcase exemplary interiors through her home.
The slanted tiled rooftop is not just aesthetically pleasing but also brings home the close-to-nature feel. Great ventilation is an added plus, that we don’t believe to be coincidental. The villa has a private garden and an expansive swimming pool that gives it the illusion of a beach-front property. The floor-to-ceiling windows bind the interiors with the surroundings and lend an expensive, lavish look to the house.
The house comprises of five bedrooms, with attached bathrooms, each grander than the other.
The real grandiosity and charm appears in the living room which has the feel of a royal court with its double-height walls, tall glass façade, wooden rafters and partly sliding windows. To add to the charm of the greenery that surrounds the expanse, the living room has been built with mathios bricks in amber colour, brought straight from Greece.
The kitchen is elegant in its simplicity. An eccentric flair is developed with the help of marble countertops and the art of nature that they are. Like every part of the home, the kitchen has been connected with the greenery via a windowed outlet that also serves as a natural chimney.
The real gem of the house is the dining space that looks like its floating over the waters of the private pool around it. It makes for a cosy space for enjoyable dinners with friends and family.
A media room, staff room and a powder room add features characteristic of a celebrity home.
To complete the look that mimics the cradle of nature, sandstone flooring has been used in the entire villa for a rich earthy feel. Also, the mathios tiles pan from the living room to the wooden deck of the private pool to blend that look.
Decoration Hacks to Grab
Spread around the expanse of the property are various sculptures, busts and masks of Buddha, giving the home a spiritually heightened ambience. These sculptures find themselves amidst greenery and uplift the beauty.
The little monk sits peacefully on the green carpet of freshly mown grass, overlooking the airy seating space.
The pink Buddha, candlesticks matching with the bedside table lamps, and a chandelier hanging quirkily in a corner lights up the bedroom, while the antique looking trunk box at the foot of the bed balances the flamboyant decoration.
The insertion of art sculpts inspired from Chinese and Thai cultures, coupled with western influenced leather sofas, bring an earthy mix to the room. The bright and colourful wall-hanging, abstract as it may be, infuses some cheeriness into the otherwise toned-down interior.
The greenery-rich interiors carry forward the same natural exuberance that surrounds the villa. Infusing colours are the abstract paintings and contrasting lounge chairs, ornately built, that make everything come together.
